Cynthia's Crystal #1
Cynthia Silvernail was a wonderful old lady who's husband's name was Walter. He was an inorganic chemist like me. He died of complications due to Parkinson's Disease. During his long career he worked for Kerr-McGee Corporation developing uses for rare earth compounds including their oxides. He invented a formula for a cerium oxide high performance polishing agent for lenses and reflector telescope mirrors. His polish was used to give the Hubble Space Telescope's main mirror it final near perfect finish. Look at a Hubble photograph and you will likely look to its fine resolution as a result of Walter's invention.
Cynthia collected fine crystal. The big bay window in her dinning room had several large shelves mounted in front of it holding much of her collection, providing me with the opportunity to make this picture and several others. She died last year of cancer. She and Walter are survived by a daughter and two sons. They lived a good life and we remember them now with the help of pictures like this.
I believe that the Souls of Cynthia and Walter live on in our hearts and minds and in the enormous impact that they have made on everyone living in this world. When we live good lives we lead constructive efforts that people build upon and nurture. When we live destructively and dishonorably, others work very hard to undo the effects of our negative impact on their world. So, the Souls of the good live on forever. Evil Souls are forgotten and are gradually rubbed out as the burning hot fire of life consumes them. This is Heaven and Hell.
We create our own Heaven and our own Hell right now, here, in the present, as the record of our deeds is written in detail on the Great Quantum Membrane of Life, the parchment of reality. We condemn ourselves to burn forever in the block universe of frozen time. In the same way, we gain our reward as our righteous deeds grow and are grown in the greenhouse of this beautiful world so that they will dominate and take over the universe in the infinite time of an endless world. |
